FOUNDATION

The Adam and Dorothy Miller Lifesafety Education Center (dba Parker Fire Safety Foundation) has its origins dating back to a dairy farm about 5 miles east of Parker. It was there, that Adam Miller, from Elizabeth, and Dorothy Miller, a teacher from Lakewood, made their home. The Millers left a portion of their estate to the Parker Fire District in 1983. In 1985, the Parker Fire Protection District dedicated these funds to creating a safer community through prevention education. In 1986, the Adam and Dorothy Miller Lifesafety Education Center was created by the Parker Fire District Board of Directors, and in 1991 the Center became a nonprofit organization.

MISSION STATEMENT

The Parker Fire Safety Foundation is dedicated to the support and augmentation of education for the general public in life safety, fire and accident prevention with the objective of reducing injuries, loss of life and property damage.

TEEN DRIVING PROGRAMS

The Parker Fire Safety Foundation and the Parker Fire Protection District work together with citizens, businesses, organizations, and other governmental agencies to create a safer environment in our community, state, and nation.

TEEN DRIVING SKILLS (Behind-the-Wheel Skill Building Program)

Parker Fire Safety Foundation is offering an effective defensive driving and crash avoidance skills program at its facility on East Plaza Drive in Parker, CO. Threshold braking, backing, steering, effective use of vehicle dynamics, crash avoidance techniques, and skid recovery are the survival skills that are taught.

In September, 2003, the Citizens of the Town of Parker voted to allow Parker Fire District and Parker Fire Safety Foundation to build and operate this program on land owned by the Town.

● Driver Awareness Program A state approved teen awareness program necessary to obtain a driver permit at 15 years and 6 months.

This program includes information for parents as well as teens in all areas of the learn to drive process. Highways, country roads, towns, signage, pedestrians, work zone areas, and other aspects of the learn to drive process are reinforced with computerized simulation modules for the teens. Classes are held at 10235 Parkglenn Way, Parker. The cost is $45 per new driver.

● License to Survive-A Parent and Teen Driving Seminar!

Parents and their teenagers are invited to attend a free program designed to increase the effectiveness of teen driver preparation. This seminar is a community program sponsored by The Parent University™ through the Douglas County School District, Douglas County Sheriff, Parker Police Department, and the Parker Fire Safety Foundation.

For the parents, the seminar offers a better understanding of the learn-to-drive process, and how they can become more effectively involved in the process.

For teens, the seminar offers a clearer perspective of this process; how to keep their driver's license; and how to survive the greatest potential risks of driving.
